Robert "Rob" Mickelson

Owner / Funeral Director

Rob Mickelson was born in Manistique, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. He was raised in the suburbs of Detroit, and graduated from Romeo, Michigan High School in 1982. Rob then attended Western Michigan University for two years and transferred to the University of Minnesota where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mortuary Science as well as his License to Practice Mortuary Science in the State of Michigan in 1986. In 1990, Rob obtained his Funeral Directors license in Wisconsin and moved to Plymouth, Wisconsin, where he was employed at Wittkopp Funeral Service until October of 1998. He then relocated with his young family to Shawano, Wisconsin.

Rob is active in the Shawano community. He has served as the President of the Rotary Club and was the Co-Chairman of the Fund Raising Committee. He was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship by the members of the Rotary Club. He is a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he serves as an usher. He and his wife, Nancy, have been very active in the Shawano schools, where they served as chairmen of the Dinner Dance and Last Dance Committees in the music department.  They also co-chaired the Annual Winter SHAZZ Festival. Rob served as a board member for Safe Haven Domestic Abuse Shelter in Shawano. 

In addition to his responsibilities at the funeral home, Rob is the Shawano Area Representative for Appleton Marble & Granite. Designing monuments and markers for families has become a passion of his.

Rob and Nancy have three boys; Alex, Teddy, and Jack. In his spare time Rob enjoys racquetball, grouse hunting, boating, and spending time with his family.

Payton Coppens

Licensed Funeral Director

Payton joined Mickelson Funeral Service in March of 2023. She grew up in Casco and graduated from Luxemburg-Casco High School. She then attended Des Moines Area Community College where she earned an Associate’s Degree of Applied Science in Funeral Service. Following her graduation, Payton became a licensed funeral director.

In her spare time, Payton enjoys making custom cookies, doing puzzles, and spending time with her fiancé and family, including her cats.

Nancy Mickelson

Licensed Advance Funeral Planner

Nancy is the Office Manager and Advance Funeral Planner for Mickelson Funeral Service. She received her license in Advance Funeral Planning and works with families to create a service which is right for them. Nancy also designs personalized memorial folders for funerals and memorial services, and can prepare video memorials upon request.

Nancy and Rob have three boys, Alex, Teddy, and Jack. She loves to travel with Rob, and visit all of their boys. Nancy also enjoys reading, trying new recipes, and spending time with family and friends.

Mark Braun

Funeral Assistant

Mark is a lifelong resident of Shawano.   He is a Shawano High School graduate.   Until recently, he was employed at Braun Dairy where he spent many hours repairing dairy farmer's machinery.   Mark is an avid water skier, loves working out, and playing basketball.  He is a good and faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano.
